Holding Onto Reality

A first rate interview with ALBA party’s Eva Comrie as she tries to explain what needs to happen to inspire confidence sufficiently to take our independence back that is already won. It should be noted, her interviewer, ‘Norrie’ spent a lot of his time blocking indie supporters on the Internet whose opinions, well-informed or not, he apparently disliked, an odd behaviour for someone who is calling for unity among the movement.

Norrie is the same who blocked anybody on Twitter he disliked? Sheesh!

Nothing wrong with the idea to collapse the colonial administration, hold a Scottish plebiscite election, secure a majority of seats and votes and then declare independence. The wider independence movement surely support this. The only people stopping it are the SNP, which confirms they don’t want independence.

The discussion then moved on to policies for this and that and the idea of ‘competent devolved government’. This aspiration can never be realised for one simple reason; the UK civil service controls all the key institutions in Scotland and appoints the people who run them and the last thing they want to do is make Scotland look as if it can govern itself competently. In this reality Ministers are merely out of their depth figureheads, they don’t run institutions or implement policy. It is no accident that more or less every devolved policy area is in crisis and nor do we do not see any real reforms that are badly needed. In other words every devolved policy area is intentionally guided into crisis and nothing of significance changes in a colonial society.

A colonized people need ‘a complete break with the system, not a compromise’ (Memmi) such as a colonial administration which prolongs ‘the racket’, with a dominant national party acting ‘like a gang’ and itself becoming ‘an instrument of coercion’. To do this via an election we need to get a majority, immediately declare independence and reclaim our sovereignty. Only then will we be able to create oor ain Scots-led institutions and begin to rebuild our country.
